Neptune is the eighth and farthest known planet from the Sun. It is dark, cold, and whipped by supersonic winds, making it the windiest planet in our entire solar system.
Because it is so far away, it takes Neptune a massive 165 Earth years to orbit the Sun just one time. In fact, Neptune just completed its first full orbit since it was discovered in 1846!
Neptune gets its beautiful, deep blue color from the methane gas in its atmosphere. It is also the only planet in our solar system found by mathematical prediction rather than by looking through a telescope.
